Hunger Games Easter Eggs

Start Blu-Ray movie disc. If you get Resume, Yes, No, with Yes highlighted, move to No and click OK. (You must be at the true start of the disc, not at the main, play movie menu.)

The camera walks down the aisle between the columns. At the top and bottom of each column is a word. The letters start white, but for some words a couple of letters will turn red or green. You need to write down each word and note any letters that are red or green.

For example, the word at the top of the left column is Mining. All letters stay white. Ignore it.

The word at the bottom of the left column is Obedience. The two letters, “be”, turn red. The two letters, “di”, turn green. Write this all down.

Add the other words.

You will probably have to go through the opening sequence numerous times to get all the words. Just click, Stop, then Play and, if you get Resume, Yes, No, move highlight to No and click OK.

Switch to the Special Features disc.

On the menu bar, the first choice (leftmost) should be “The World Is Watching, Making the Hunger Games”. (If it isn't, move it till it is.) It is ready to be selected. No, don't select it. Click down arrow.

A scrap of paper from PH (Plutarch Heavensbee) will show on the screen. At the top is the title, “Seeing Red in the Capitol”.

Down the page are a list of words, obedience, power, etc. Each word is on the list you made above. Build a secret message by taking the red letters from each word.

“be” from obedience, “w” from power and so on.

For the second secret message, move the “Featurettes” menu item to the leftmost position. It is ready to be selected. Do not select it. Click the down arrow.

A second scrap of paper from PH (Plutarch Heavensbee) will show on the screen. At the top is the title, “Seek greener pastures in the Capitol”.

Down the page are a list of words, obedience, fishing, etc. Each word is on the list you made above. Build the second secret message by taking the green letters from each word.

“di” from obedience, “s” from fishing and so on.

During this message, a couple of lines of instructions for finding the Easter egg appear at the bottom of the screen. (The lines disappear very fast so read quickly.)

Your remote has 4 colored buttons across the bottom. The first is red. That is what you—a supporter—press.

At the main, play movie menu, there is a spinning Panem symbol. Watch it very closely. Notice the ghosting that upsets President Snow. Follow the instruction above to get a brief movie clip.

I always start a disc at the main, play movie menu. I can check setup (Setup). I can go to the movie (Play) or start at a scene (Scene) or explore the features (Features).

At any time during the playing of the movie, I can click “disc menu” to return to the main, play movie menu.

I was very irritated that the Easter egg for Mockingjay Part 1 requires you to know there is another menu. I had forgotten about it and spent several hours fruitlessly looking for the instructions for the Easter Egg.

When I first got my Blu-Ray player, I read the manual and saw there was another menu. However, whenever I tried it, I either went back to the main, play movie menu or got “Invalid”. So, I stopped using it and, finally, forgot about it.

On my remote, it is labeled “Popup”. Click it anytime during playing of the Blu-Ray movie. The movie will squish to a small rectangle in the upper right corner. (The movie will continue playing.) You have the same Play, Setup, Scenes, Features options, as with the main, play movie menu.

Under the rectangle with the movie will be three lines which tell how to get the Easter egg.

Find a pill bottle—black cap, translucent brown plastic body, lying on its side.

Your remote has 4 colored buttons across the bottom. The last is blue. Click it when the pill bottle is on the screen to see the propo.

There are two possibilities for the brief scene. Which one you get seems to be selected at random.

One scene is President Snow sitting at his desk preparing to speak “horse manure” according to Beetee.

You don't want this scene. If you get it, you have to start over. Just click, Stop, then Play and, if you get Resume, Yes, No, move highlight to No and click OK.

Eventually, you will get the other brief scene. Watch it very closely and follow the instructions above.

After the Lionsgate logo in the stars, you get a block letter Lionsgate logo. The camera continues to pan down. If you next get a pipe, you are in business. Look very closely at the right side of the pipe.

Occasionally, a movie has a scene at the end of the credits. Mockingjay Part 1 morphs the original mockingjay pin through the Catching Fire, wings spread mockingjay to a free flying mockingjay.

The Easter egg for Mockingjay Part 2 is very simple to find. You should not need any help.

The Easter egg for Mockingjay Part 2 is very tedious to get. You should set aside an hour to do all the required steps.

Start Blu-Ray movie disc. If you get Resume, Yes, No, with Yes highlighted, move to No and click OK. (You must be at the true start of the disc, not at the main, play movie menu.) Skip all the previews. (Repeatedly press “forward to next chapter” button on your remote.)

At the “Lionsgate not responsible for opinions” message, look at the lower, right line. It gives the instruction to find the Easter egg.

You need to go to the Easter egg even though you won't be able to solve it completely yet.

The holo is in the center of the table. It will stay lit in the obvious color for a couple of seconds. Press the matching color button at the bottom of your remote.

If you watched the Mockingjay Part 1 disc, you know what to do. Get out your notepad and go to work.

Your reward will be three extended scenes.

[+] Mockingjay Part 1 hint.

Go to the main, play movie menu on the Mockingjay Part 1 disc. Note each picture card on the right and its serial number. You have to do both the President Snow and Mockingjay versions of the speech. Be careful that the digit 0 has a slash through it, the letter O does not.

[+] Mockingjay Part 2 hint.

Go back to Easter egg on Mockingjay Part 2 Blu-Ray disc. The cards you get will change on each visit which is why you have to write down all cards. Enter serial number for first card. (Enter digits as is using your remote. Translate a letter to a digit using the code at the left of the card.) Press OK on your remote. You will get an extended scene. Do the second card. Do the third card.

I thought Easter Eggs were a relic of the early days of computers. I was surprised to learn (June 2021) that Google is keeping the Easter Egg torch aflame in its Android operating system.

1. Google "Android ## Easter Egg" for the steps for your Android version. (Replace ## with your operating system number.)

2. On your Android phone, go to Settings, About Phone.

3. Find the line: Android Version ##

4. Tap rapidly on the line until the screen shows the Easter Egg start.

5. Continue with the steps for your version you found in step 1 above. (Each version has a different Easter Egg. Yes, I missed all the ones before Android 10 when i first learned about them. Grrr.)

6. Once you have found the Easter Egg screen, you can return to it directly later. At the bottom of most screens is the home button in the center of three buttons. (Ignore it.) To one side is a back arrow to go to the previous app. (Ignore it.) To the other side is a button that shows all the recent apps you've used. (Tap it.) It may be called the Recent Apps button or the Overview button or who knows what. It may be a square or three vertical lines or who knows what. Find the Easter egg screen and tap it to activate it without having to do all the preliminary steps.
